One prompt, every week

A single question in your inbox each week. No account, no streak to protect, unsubscribe whenever.

This version defaults to one prompt, one follow-up, and one action step so you can make journaling part of the day without turning it into a project.

Prompt-of-the-day examples for daily reflection

  • What deserves my attention today before it becomes urgent?
  • What am I proud of from yesterday that I almost skipped over?
  • What would make today feel honest instead of merely busy?
  • What relationship, routine, or responsibility needs a little more care?
  • What is one small action that would make tonight easier?

Keep the habit

Three Cells is where the writing goes when you want to keep it — rate the day, track a habit, see patterns.

Where these prompts come from

The questions here are written from scratch, but most are built on a framework someone else worked out first. The starting point is James Pennebaker's expressive writing research, which found that writing about a difficult experience for 15 to 20 minutes across a few sessions produced measurable changes in wellbeing. The practical rule that follows: keep writing, and do not stop to repair the sentences.

Journal Prompt of the Day FAQ

What is a journal prompt of the day?

It is one prompt chosen for today's entry so you can start writing without searching through many options.

Should the prompt of the day be random?

It can be random, but it is often better when it also matches your current focus, like gratitude, clarity, or discipline.

How do I make prompt-of-the-day journaling stick?

Keep the session short, write at the same time each day, and connect the entry to one small action.
